Eureka!

Discovering American English and Culture Through Proverbs, Fables, Myths and Legends

American English is filled with vocabulary, allusions, and cultural values from the ancient Western World. The stories, art, and ideals of the ancient Greeks and Romans, and later the British of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, greatly influenced the language and culture of modern American English. A knowledge of the most famous of these tales greatly improves the language abilities of the ESL learner.

Eureka! teaches new vocabulary and idioms, improves reading skills, and introduces the ESL student to the most famous proverbs and values of the mainstream American culture of the 21st century. The stories also challenge students' thinking and clearly illustrate word derivations through a rich variety of reading skill exercises and activities.
